SSC Photo & Signature Rules 2026: Live Photo + 10–20 KB Signature
SSC now captures your photo live. Here is exactly what you still need to upload, the signature size, and how to avoid rejection.
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) changed how photographs are handled. For exams such as SSC CGL and CHSL, the application module now captures your photograph live through your webcam or phone camera while you fill the form. You can no longer upload an old studio photo there. What you still upload is your signature.

Blurred or very small signatures are liable to be rejected, so the signature should fill most of the image.
How to prepare the signature on your phone
- Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper. Make it the size you normally sign.
- Take a photo in daylight, holding the phone straight above the paper to avoid shadows.
- Open our SSC resizer, choose Signature, upload, and keep Clean up on — it whitens the paper and darkens the ink.
- Tap Make my file. When you see “🎯 Perfect match” the file is 10–20 KB and ready.
Tips for the live photo
- Sit facing a plain, light-coloured wall with light falling on your face (not behind you).
- Remove cap, mask and dark glasses; keep your full face inside the on-screen frame.
- Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression and eyes open.
When do I still need an uploaded photo?
Some SSC notices, departmental exams or later-stage forms may still ask for a passport-style photo (commonly 3.5 × 4.5 cm, 20–50 KB JPG). Our SSC page has that preset too — but use it only if your notice asks for an upload.
